LCBAS Education Committee
The Education
Committee of LCBAS is available to do presentations to groups. In
the past, we have
provided informative displays, given classroom talks from kindergarten
to college level, and sent speakers to groups such as garden clubs and
Senior Citizens.
Although we have various
slide shows, we mainly use parts of our extensive taxidermy collection
to illustrate topics such as Backyard Birds, Owls, Raptors, and Birds
of the Shrub-Steppe. We frequently are able to go to classrooms
prior to their field trips to
the Education Center at McNary National Wildlife Refuge with a talk on
wetlands.
Let us know what would interest your group and we will see if we can
come up with a program.

Audubon Adventures
Some time ago, National Audubon Society developed a curriculum
supplement designed for use in grades 4, 5, and 6. Called
AUDUBON ADVENTURES, the lessons and hands-on activities develop in children a better understanding of
birds and other wildlife and their habitats. Use of the
supplement exposes learners to new ideas and perspectives that
encourage development of skills in multiple disciplines.
Included in the
materials are:
-
Audubon Adventures:
five editions of a newspaper written for students about birds, other
wildlife, and their habitats (enough for 32 students)
-
Audubon Animal
Adventures: a video specially edited for use in the classroom.
