all the fun a cruise can offer. Rail birdwatching.
March 9
Cruising.
Preview of port of call and birds of the area and rail watching.
March 10-Oranjestad, Aruba.
The
historic Dutch capital of this picturesque island. Dutch
influence
combines multicolored houses with beautiful carved doors. The
charm of
the city compliments the beauty of this Caribbean Island where the
Dutch and indigenous culture have merged to give Aruba a unique
atmosphere. The most common bird in Aruba is the
Bananaquit. Other
birds we may see on the shore excursion are Ruby-topaz Hummingbird,
Caribbean Parakeet, and White-cheeked Pintail.
March 11-Cartagena, Columbia
Cobbled
streets, balconies with blooming bougainvillea and pastel plazas make
Cartagena
one of Latin America’s most photographic cities. Founded in
1533, this
Spanish Colonial city is steeped in history. Its location
made it
popular port for plunderers and pirates. Today this city is a
delightful mix of old and new. Shore excursion will be
looking for
Northern Screamer, Cocoi Heron, White-necked Puffbird, Yellow-hooded
Blackbird and Great Kiskadee.
March 12

March 13-Colon, Panama
Colon
is located on Panama’s central Caribbean coast. Panama is
considered
by many birders as one of the most exciting and unique locations in the
world. Panama’s position, as the link between Central and South America
places it at the south most edge of the range of
many species and
the north most range of many others. The shore excursion will
be
provided by local birding guides. Birds we may see on the
shore
excursion are Green Honey Creeper, Slaty-tailed Trogon,
Sapphire-throated Hummingbird, and Red-crown Woodpecker.
March 14-Puerto Limon, Costa Rica
Columbus
discovered this land on his fourth voyage to the Americas and named it
Costa Rica, or rich co  ast. Puerto Limon has rich flora and
fauna
overflowing with natural wonders-towering mountains, magnificent rain
forest containing orchids and over 800 species of birds. The
shore
excursion will be provided by a local birding guide at Cedar Valley
Ranch which is located in the water shed of the Banano River.
This
ranch of 150 hectares is dedicated to preserving the tropical
rainforest. Birds that maybe seen on the shore excursion are
Keel-billed Toucan, Amazon and Green Kingfisher, Black-chested Jay and
Passerini’s Tanager.
March 15
Cruising and
preview of next port of call and birding opportunities and rail
watching.
March 16
George Town,
Grand Cayman Grand Cayman is one of a group of three
magnificent
tropical islands also discovered by Columbus. The Cayman
Islands have
a National Trust whose mission is “to preserve natural environments for
present and future generations.” Two National Trust
properties
excellent for birdwatching are Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and the
Governor Michael Gore Bird Sanctuary. This shore excursion
will be
provided by the National Trust and could include Zenaida Dove, Cuban
Parrot, West Indian Woodpecker and Cuban Bullfinch.
March 17

farewell dinner.
March 18
Cruise ends in
